Job Description
Summary:
Key Role:
Provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS)-related advanced academic/non-academic educational trainings, participates in program development and planning, implementation, evaluation, and related projects.
Roles and resposnibilities
- Provide advanced EMS training courses (ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, EVOS, etc.) to the ALS clinicians in addition to the BLS clinicians when required.
- Provide DOH-accredited programs (EMT).
- Professionally conduct the class in an effective learning environment for all students.
- Update, and deliver advanced-level EMS curricula, including Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), and continuing education courses.
- Prepare and maintain instructional materials, including lesson plans, presentations, handouts, and assessment tools.
- Conduct written, practical, and clinical evaluations to assess student competency
- Provide constructive feedback to students on their progress and areas for improvement
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance metrics
- Monitor and evaluate student performance during clinical rotations and field mentorship
- Stay current with advancements in EMS practices, technologies, and educational techniques through ongoing professional development.
- Maintain required certifications and licensure as an EMS instructor and provider
- Ensure compliance with DOH/MOHAP, local, and international regulations governing EMS education.
- Act as a mentor and role model for students, fostering a culture of professionalism, empathy, and lifelong learning
- Collaborate with fellow educators and staff to improve program quality and address challenges
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other Department activities
- Contribute to program accreditation processes, audit and self-study reports
- Know the departmental policies involved in reporting/repairing/maintaining equipment and see that these policies are carried through.
- Demonstrates appropriate testing and grading of cognitive exams and practical skills
- Keep accurate written records on attendance, tests, and work submitted by the students and submit them after each class.
- Accurately record grades and grade breakdowns on official grade reports.
- Make sure the classrooms are in good order at the end of the hour or day. This includes erasing boards, turning off equipment, straightening chairs and tables, locking doors, and turning off lights.
- Implement the course syllabus, including any approved change, received from the Department Manager at least one month in advance.
- Attend Faculty/Instructor/Educator meetings and In-Service programs at least once per quarter, actively pursue professional development opportunities, and report all activities in annual meetings.
- Continues self-knowledge development by participating in staff development (internal and external).
- May work in staffing on Ambulance as required to support staffing needs, maintain skills, observe and educate staff.
- Communicates with Operation mentorship in the company, arranges to have EMT students perform clinical rotations, and coordinates the same.
- Implement all cleaning and disinfection related policies and procedures for all educational equipment and materials.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of EMS Education & Research.
Qualifications and Experience:
Academic/Professional Degree, Experience & Certifications
- Bachelor's or Associate Degree/Certificate in Paramedicine with 2-3 years’ experience as a Paramedic.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with 2-3 years' EMS experience.
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
- Valid Basic Life Support Instructor Certification (BLS)
- Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor Certification (ACLS)
- Valid Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Instructor Course Certification (PHTLS) or ITLS
- Valid Paediatric Advanced Life Support Course Instructor (PALS) is an advantage/preferably.
- Valid Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety Provider Course Certification (EVOS) is an advantage.
- AREMT EMS Instructor/Assessor certification is an advantage.
Requirements & Professional Skills/Expertise
- Committed to achieving DOH/MOHAP Paramedic/ACP license
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate education programs.
- Must possess basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Must possess knowledge and application for online learning (Blackboard, LMS, etc.).
- Must possess excellent organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, and professional communication abilities
