Emirati EMT Students Complete Specialised EMS Vehicle Operator Safety Course

Abu Dhabi, 15 June 2020: Emergency Medical Technician students of the third cohort of the National Ambulance's Emirati EMT Programme have successfully completed the internationally accredited National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT)’s EMS Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) course. This comes as part of National Ambulance's commitment to continuous improvement of its clinical staff’s performance and excellence in providing emergency care while adhering to the highest standards of safety.
The course included virtual theoretical lectures and practical training –with precautionary and preventive measures taken due to the current situation- on safe and defensive driving and maneuvering of ambulances and traffic safety guidelines to enhance the safety of crews, patients and road users during emergency response; legal aspects of EMS vehicle operation; mental, emotional and physical preparedness; vehicle inspection and maintenance, technological aids and simulation training.
National Ambulance recently received the accreditation of the American National Association of Emergency Medicine Technicians (NAEMT) in delivering the EVOS course while taking into account the UAE laws and regulations of traffic safety, making it the first ambulance service in UAE and the second in the Middle East and Africa authorised to give this course.
National Ambulance provides emergency pre-hospital care in the Northern Emirates through the dedicated 998 emergency ambulance number and NA 998 mobile application. Its primary task is to handle public medical emergency response and provide high standards of emergency pre-hospital care to citizens, residents and visitors across the Emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah.
